The Strawberry Pack

Current numbers: 3

Pack status: Active. Designated in 2012.

WDFW Range Map

The Strawberry Pack’s range lies mostly within the tribal lands of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation (CTCR) in NE Washington. They were designated as a pack in 2012.

Since the pack’s territory is on the tribal lands of the CTCR, the pack is managed by tribal, not state, leadership.

In 2016, the pack had at least seven members, although one was legally hunted and killed on Colville tribal lands. In 2017, the pack had at least eight members, and one was legally hunted on tribal lands.

In 2018, the collared breeding male of the pack dispersed and paired up with at least one other wolf to form the new Nason Pack on Colville tribal lands. At the end of 2018, the Strawberry Pack had at least seven members and received breeding pair designation for the year.

In 2019, one collared wolf (CTCR610) dispersed from the pack and settled in with the Togo Pack. The state’s 2019 annual survey detected at least nine pack members, but breeding for the year was not confirmed by tribal biologists.

The 2020 annual survey counted a minimum of 10 wolves in this pack and a successful breeding pair. In 2021, there were nine confirmed wolves in the pack, with two wolves legally hunted by the CTCR.

The 2022 annual survey counted a minimum of five wolves in the pack, with one wolf legally hunted by the CTCR. At the end of 2023, there were three wolves confirmed in the pack after five were legally hunted on tribal lands. They were not considered a successful breeding pair for the year.

In 2024, seven wolves from the Strawberry Pack were legally hunted on Colville tribal lands, leaving only three wolves at the end of the year. They were not considered a successful breeding pair.
