The Madison Butte Pack

Current Numbers: 5

Pack Status: Active. Designated in 2023.

Morrow County Areas of Known Wolf Activity. ODFW

The Madison Butte Pack was founded by WA123F, a radio-collared female wolf that dispersed from the Columbia Pack in Washington and entered Oregon in January 2022. Her movements indicated that she became a resident in southwestern Morrow County. Another wolf was documented traveling with her during the summer and fall.

In 2023, they were officially designated the Madison Butte Pack, as they produced two pups that survived until the end of the year, with four wolves counted in the pack. They were designated a successful breeding pair for the year.

The breeding female, WA123F, produced three pups that survived to the end of 2024. No breeding male was documented, therefore, the pack did not count as a breeding pair. One wolf was illegally killed in 2024 in the portion of the state where wolves are federally protected. Because of this, The USFWS Office of Law Enforcement, with assistance from OSP, are investigating the death.
