The Ashpan Pack

Pack Status: Active. Designated in Spring 2025.

CDFW Ashpan Pack Range Map 2025.

The Ashpan Pack was confirmed in the spring of 2025 in eastern Shasta County, north of Lassen Volcanic National Park. Two wolves, WHA07M (a black male wolf from the 2021 Whaleback Pack litter) and another gray wolf, were observed traveling together since summer 2024, and WHA07M founded the pack in October of 2024. They previously were known as the “Eastern Shasta County AWA” before meeting the criteria of a pack. In June 2025, WHA07M and WHA04F (his sister, a black female wolf from the same litter) were confirmed to be using the pack territory. WHA07M was determined to have been the breeding male of the 2024 Ice Cave Pack before joining WHA04F in the Ashpan pack territory.

During summer 2025, CDFW confirmed at least two wolves in this region, but the pack did not breed. WHA29F of the Whaleback Pack was observed with the Ashpan Pack in eastern Shasta County via camera traps in January 2026. She then left the pack alone, before returning to the pack’s region in March 2026.
