The Shady Pass Pack was confirmed in Chelan County as four wolves located south of Lake Chelan in 2021.
WA44M, who was born in the Teanaway Pack in 2014, was recaptured in the Shady Pass Pack territory in 2022. He was the son of WA32M, who was part of the first litter of wolf pups born in Washington since extirpation. WA44M was likely the breeding male of the Shady Pass Pack.
WA137F, a female wolf from the Shady Pass, dispersed from the pack territory in July 2022 and established the Napeequa territory in November 2022. At the end of 2022, there were five wolves confirmed in the Shady Pass Pack.
WA138F was collared in the Shady Pass Pack as a yearling in May 2022. She dispersed in the summer of 2023 up into British Columbia and then wandered back north of Loup Loup Pass, where her collar stopped transmitting location data. There were four wolves confirmed in the pack at the end of 2023.
In 2024, there were a minimum of four wolves confirmed in the pack, and they were not considered a successful breeding pair. Three wolves dispersed from the pack territory in 2024, and one died of natural causes.
WA143M dispersed from the Shady Pass territory in February 2024, traveling throughout the North Cascades and South Cascades recovery areas until May 2024. WA165F dispersed in May 2024 and traveled throughout the remainder of the year around Lake Chelan and through the Glacier Peak Wilderness.
WA44M dispersed from the Shady Pass territory in May 2024 and was killed by other wolves in the Lookout territory in October 2024. He was killed in the territory where his father was born 16 years earlier. WA44M was a second-generation Washington wolf and lived an impressive ten years – most wolves live to be only 3 or 4.
