In 2020, a single wolf was documented in a new AKWA in the eastern portion of the Murderers Creek Unit and northern portion of the Malheur River Unit (Grant and Harney Counties). At the end of 2020, a single wolf continued to be documented. In early March 2021, a second wolf was confirmed.
In 2021, the wolves bred for the first time, producing three pups that survived to the end of the year. There were five wolves counted in the winter survey for the year. Due to their reproductive success, they were counted as a successful breeding pair and officially designated as a pack, dubbed the Logan Valley Pack.
In 2022, only two wolves were documented in the Logan Valley AKWA during the winter count, so they temporarily lost pack status.
One wolf in the Logan Valley family was lawfully shot for “personal safety” in 2023. A total of three wolves were documented during the winter count, and they were not considered a breeding pair.
The pack then produced three pups that survived to the end of 2024, designating them a breeding pair and reinstating their pack status. Five pack members were documented during the winter count. One wolf from the pack was illegally shot and killed, and two wolves were killed by the department in 2024.
