
The Leadpoint Pack was confirmed in 2017. A collared female wolf (70f) dispersed from the Dirty Shirt Pack in May 2017 to pair up and form this new pack. As of the end of 2018, the pack had two wolves and was not counted as a successful breeding pair.
In June 2019, state wildlife biologists found wolf sign in the area, but did not try to trap any wolves due to an ongoing logging operation in the area. In the 2019-2020 annual winter survey, however, biologists found 7 wolves in the pack and confirmed successful breeding for 2019. A male wolf was collared in June 2020 and he dispersed south into Carpenter Ridge pack territory in December 2020.
The 2020-2021 survey found a minimum of nine wolves in the pack and one successful breeding pair.
Following a series of livestock predations in 2020, WDFW authorized lethal removal in the Leadpoint, Togo, and Wedge Packs. In total, three wolves were removed from the Wedge pack throughout the authorizing permit’s time-frame, but none were killed from the Leadpoint Pack following trapping attempts.
