The Grouse Flats Pack

WDFW Range Map 2019
ODFW Map

Although this pack has an activity center in Oregon, it primarily resides in Washington and is counted as a Washington pack. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife map is included for reference.

Washington state wildlife managers confirmed this pack in 2017.

As of the end of 2018, it had a minimum count of 8 wolves and was counted as a successful breeding pair.

In September 2019, the state wildlife department killed a member of the pack, presumed to be the breeding female, upon a determination that the pack had predated on livestock. Although wolves are an endangered species according to Washington law, under the Washington Wolf Plan and Wolf-Livestock Interaction Protocol, the state may kill wolves that are believed to be members of a pack that predates on livestock within a specified frequency and interval.

WA90M dispersed from the Grouse Flats Pack in fall 2019 and appears to have joined the Wenaha Pack in Oregon.

One instance of wolf predation upon livestock was attributed to this pack in February 2020.

There was not a confirmed breeding pair, according to WDFW’s 2020-2021 winter survey.

Current Numbers: 3

Pack Status: Designated 2017
