Lake County Areas of Known Wolf Activity. ODFW

An Area of Known Wolf Activity (AKWA) was designated in portions of Lake, Klamath, and Deschutes Counties in 2020. LAS13M, a male wolf traveling alone, dispersed from the Lassen Pack in California late in the year.

In 2021, two wolves, LAS13 and OR115, were documented in the area during the winter count and were not counted as a breeding pair.

The pair had three pups that survived until the end of 2022, counting them as a breeding pair. With five wolves in the family, the group was officially designated the Gearhart Mountain Pack.

In 2023, the Gearhart Mountain Pack produced at least two pups that survived until the end of the year. However, the breeding female and two other wolves from the pack died prior to the end of the year, so the group was not counted as a breeding pair. A total of seven wolves were documented during the winter count.

The family did not produce pups in 2024 and was not designated a breeding pair. Only two members were documented during the winter count, meaning the family no longer counted as a pack.
