Current Numbers: 6

Pack Status: Active. Designated in 2017.

WDFW Frosty Pack Range Map

The Frosty Pack in Washington was designated in 2017. Its territory is on the tribal lands of the Confederated Tribes of Colville Reservation (CTCR), and the pack is managed by tribal, not state, leadership. One male wolf from the pack was collared by tribal biologists in 2017.

In each of 2017 and 2018, one pack member was killed in a legal hunt. At the end of 2018, the pack had a minimum of six wolves and was counted as a breeding pair.

At the end of 2019, the pack had a minimum of five members.

At the end of 2020, the pack had a minimum of 10 confirmed members and one successful breeding pair. In 2021, the pack had a minimum of seven confirmed wolves in the pack, and in 2022, the pack had only five.

In 2023, the CTCR counted 11 wolves in the pack, including a successful breeding pair and six pups. However, they were not able to successfully do end-of-the-year flights or track surveys, so the year-end minimum known number for those three packs was likely lower than reported, with known pup survival an average of 25%.

In 2024, the CTCR allocated focused efforts to count wolves using year-end track, aerial, and camera surveys similar to WDFW and other Tribal partners. They counted a minimum of four wolves, and the pack was not considered a successful breeding pair.

In 2025, one wolf was legally killed by the CTCR. By the end of the year, a minimum of six wolves were counted in the pack, though they were not considered a successful breeding pair.
