In 2018, two pairs of wolves were observed using this area.
In early 2019, the radio-collared male that had been traveling with a female who now heads the Desolation Pack paired up with an uncollared female wolf. They raised at least three pups that were counted in the 2019 annual survey. They were officially designated as a pack in 2019.
The Fivemile pack was counted as a breeding pair in 2020, with two pups that survived through the end of the year.
At the end of 2021, five wolves were counted in the area. They did not have two pups surviving to the end of the year, so the pack was not counted as a breeding pair. In 2022, only two wolves were counted in the Fivemile Pack AKWA.
In 2023, there was only one wolf counted in the Fivemile Pack, and a new pair of wolves was discovered using their territory. In 2024, this new pair formed the Arbuckle Pack and took over what was previously the Fivemile pack territory. The breeding male of the Fivemile Pack is still in the area, traveling alone and with the new group.
