The Dominion Pack

Current numbers: 3

Pack status: Active. Designated in 2021.

In 2021, the Dominion Pack was confirmed as two wolves traveling together in Stevens County, between the Smackout and Dirty Shirt packs.

In 2022, four wolves were confirmed in the pack. WDFW collared one yearling female from the pack in June of this year. WA134F dispersed from the Leadpoint Pack territory in November, then died of natural causes in the Dominion Pack territory that same month.

2023 saw four wolves in the pack again, with new wolves dispersed from the Smackout Pack, which disbanded after the breeding female was struck by a vehicle.

A juvenile wolf that was collared as a suspected member of the Smackout Pack in September of 2023 left that territory and had been traveling with another adult collared wolf in the Dominion pack territory during the late fall and early winter. Collar data suggests that these animals were still traveling together when the pup was killed on January 10th or 11th, 2024. Sign at the scene and the disposition of the carcass indicated that this wolf was likely killed by a cougar.

In 2024, the year-end count included four wolves. WDFW Biologists collared an adult female wolf in this territory in January. In August, the Department killed one adult male in response to repeated predations. Two more wolves died in August, with the cause still under investigation.

In January of 2025, WDFW collared another wolf from this pack. In March of 2025, a Dominion Pack wolf was killed by a rancher under the “caught-in-the-act” rule, which WDFW deemed lawful.
