WDFW Range Map

West of Smackout and Leadpoint Packs’ territories resides Onion Creek Pack. These wolves were confirmed as a pack in 2020, and the annual winter survey counted a minimum of three wolves but no successful breeding pair.

In 2021, a minimum of six wolves were counted in the pack’s territory, and in 2022, there were eight wolves confirmed.

In 2023, the breeding female of the Smackout Pack was killed by a vehicle, leading to the disbanding of her pack. Some wolves from this pack joined the Onion Creek family, as well as the Ruby and Dominion families. By the end of the year, there were 10 wolves confirmed in the pack.

In 2024, three wolves from the Onion Creek Pack, a yearling female, an adult male, and an adult female, were killed by the Agency in response to livestock predations. In September, WA145F dispersed from the Onion Creek territory into the Leadpoint territory. By the end of the year, there were only three wolves remaining in the pack, and they were not considered to have a successful breeding pair.

In June 2025, one yearling male was captured and collared by WDFW biologists.
